What is the CODE?

Well, it's a completely awesome (is that Kiwi enough for you?) sports show on Maori TV. Those who know me, know that, although I pretend, I am not particularly sporty. I don't like to watch it on TV either but I still find CODE thoroughly entertaining. It's anchored by ex-Silver Fern, Jenny-May Coffin and is backed up by ex-All Black, Glen Osborne (Oz) and other ex- and current sportsfolk.

Lots of fun combined with their unique interviewing style makes for an entertaining hour – choice Bro! Last night we got to see what goes on behind the scenes when we were part of the live studio audience. It started at 8.30pm so some children were a bit tired (and a bit annoying) but other than that, it was great. The current episode wasn't on the web at the time of writing this post but you can check back here later (episode 9, 28 June). Two of last nights guests were WBO Heavyweight Champion, Monte "Two Gunz" Barratt and NZ Olympic-bound mountain biker and mother of two, Karen Hanlen (very admirable woman). After the show we got to meet some of the hosts and guests.

Here's Steve with Monte "Two Gunz" Barratt.

Flotsam and jetsam

I just love scouring the beaches. Searching for interesting things that have been churned by the waves and tumbled over the rocks before being abandoned at the high tide mark. You never know what you might find and without a bit of imagination, most of it looks like junk littering the beach.

This gorgeous mobile was made entirely of things found on the beach: the stick, rope, shells, fishing line and coloured plastics beads on it (don’t know what they’re called).

Now I know I’m diverging a bit here, but do you remember the Wombles? Of all the old kids’ TV shows that have made a comeback I can’t understand why we haven’t seen the Wombles. They were well ahead of their time when it came to recycling and upcycling. The modern green kid would surely be able to relate to these guys, don’t you think?

Mad Men

I've put Mad Men back on my list of favourite things to look at on the web. I love, love, love it!

I have Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and was only half way through S2 when I discovered Season 3 was screening on telly in NZ. Who would have though the Kiwis would be ahead of the Aussies?! Actually I don't know where you are up to in Oz, maybe S3 is finished but in case it's not I won't spoil it for you, just to say that the episode I watched the other night was a bit weird, even by MM standards. Clue: take a look at Joan Harris' blood stained dress above!
